The first season will follow after ‘Above Justice’ in Teleamazonas’ programming.
The success of ‘Under Pressure’ continues to cross borders. Co-produced by Globo and Conspiração Filmes, its first season will premiere in Ecuador this Tuesday, September 4, where it will be shown by Teleamazonas. The series depicts the fast-paced daily routine of an underequipped hospital in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, airing on the channel’s 9 p.m. prime time slot, following after another Globo production that sways viewers wherever it airs: the limited series ‘Above Justice’.
‘Under Pressure’ is part of the company’s new generation of series and is based on true stories that took audiences by storm. In Brazil, the first season had an average reach of 40.2 million viewers per episode – 44 million just on the premiere.
The series has also been gaining ground in the international market. The first season has already been licensed to major players around the world, such as Sky Italia and the Middle-Eastern MBC Group, in addition to being featured at festivals such as TIFF (Toronto) and SeriesFest (Denver). ‘Under Pressure’ also won four awards at the 31st Festival International de Programmes Audivisuels (Fipa), in France, including best series, best actress for Marjorie Estiano (‘Dangerous Liaisons’), best actor for Julio Andrade (‘Above Justice’) and best script. Two additional seasons have already been confirmed.
In the first season, a chaotic and tense environment sets the backdrop for an unlikely relationship between the skeptic Dr. Evandro (Julio Andrade) and the religious and efficient Dr. Carolina (Marjorie Estiano). The two are not only work partners, but also share a passion for saving lives, constantly juggling the hardships of work and their own personal conflicts in order to cope with their chaotic routine.
Directed by Andrucha Waddington and Mini Kerti, ‘Under Pressure’ is a spin-off of Andrucha Waddington’s feature film with the same name. Created by Luiz Noronha, Claudio Torres and Renato Fagundes, based on an original idea by Mini Kerti, the series is loosely inspired by the book “Sob Pressão – A rotina de guerra de um médico brasileiro” by Marcio Maranhão. The series is signed by Jorge Furtado and co-written by Lucas Paraizo, Antonio Prata and Marcio Alemão, with medical consulting by Marcio Maranhão.
