‘Orphans of A Nation” challenges not only the barriers of love, but also the boundaries of a mega-production. This telenovela showcased the great challenge of portraying several cultures without leaving the country. After a lot of research and a deep dive into each reality involved in the different cultures and scenarios shown in the story, we reconstructed places like Syria, Lebanon, Greece, and even London, in Brazil.
Besides the adapted scenarios recreated thoroughly, testimonials of refugees and Lebanese communities from São Paulo helped to build a plural story that was very loyal to reality. After all, ‘Orphans of A Nation’ is about empathy, and it shows the need to listen and understand others in the contemporary world. In the words of the authors Thelma Guedes and Duca Rachid, the greatest legacy of this telenovela is trying to change people’s views of refugees and bringing a more affectionate outlook to the world.
