The selection of products is a reflection of the company’s investments in short formats.
‘Harassment,’ ‘If I Close My Eyes Now,’ ‘Iron Island’ and the second seasons of ‘Jailers’ and ‘Under Pressure.’ These are the new titles that have just been added to Globo’s catalog and will be presented to the market during MIPCOM 2018. Keeping up with the changes in consumer habits and market trends, this is the first time the company arrives in Cannes with a catalog of releases in only short formats.
“We understand that series are an important gateway to the European market. We included major titles in this catalog, with shows being almost simultaneously released in Brazil, and some previously unseen in the world. These are productions with relevant content, dealing with relevant issues anywhere in the world,” said Raphael Corrêa Netto, Executive Director of International Business at Globo.
‘Harassment,’ a highlight that Globo presents in Cannes, addresses a current and internationally relevant topic, which is the strength of the collective in the pursuit of a common goal. The work of fiction freely inspired by the book “A Clínica: Os crimes e as farsas de Roger Abdelmassih” [The Clinic: The crimes and farces of Roger Abdelmassih], by Vicente Vilardaga, tells the story of a network of women who get together to report serial sexual abuse committed by a successful and respected doctor. These women show the importance of the movement for changing women’s reality. The limited series was written by Maria Camargo (‘The Brothers’), Bianca Ramoneda, Fernando Rebello and Pedro de Barros, with artistic direction by Amora Mautner (‘Precious Pearl’ and ‘Brazil Avenue’) and general direction by Joanna Jabace and direction by Guto Botelho.
The thriller ‘If I Close My Eyes Now’ tells the story of the discoveries – and coming of age – of two young men who find a woman’s dead body and decide to try to solve the crime. In their pursuit, which involves the most important and respected figures from the small town where they live, they find out that every truth has two sides: what you see and what they hide from you. The limited series is written by Ricardo Linhares, inspired by Edney Silvestre’s book of the same name and with artistic direction by Carlos Manga Jr.
Written by Max Mallmann and Adriana Lunardi, with text supervision by Mauro Wilson, general and artistic direction by Afonso Poyart, and direction by Roberta Richard and Guga Sander, ‘Iron Island’ has not yet aired in Brazil, nor in the international market. With lots of action, drama and intensity, the series portrays the family dilemmas on the mainland and the constant turmoil at sea of a group of workers on an oil platform.
The last two releases are the second seasons of the award-winning series ‘Under Pressure’ and ‘Jailers.’ With local dramas and extremely realistic language, the first deals with the healthcare system in Rio de Janeiro, and the second focuses on the prison system in São Paulo. Both address human dramas that are relevant to fans from the most diverse backgrounds and cultures.
With artistic direction by Andrucha Waddington and direction by Andrucha and Mini Kerti, ‘Under Pressure’ was coproduced by Globo and Conspiração Filmes. The medical drama’s second season’s script is supervised by Jorge Furtado with final editing by Lucas Paraízo, who wrote the episodes with Antonio Prata, Marcio Alemão and André Sirangelo.
‘Jailers’ was co-produced by Globo, Gullane Filmes and Spray Filmes, written by Marçal Aquino, Fernando Bonassi and Dennison Ramalho, and directed by José Eduardo Belmonte.
Globo will be located at booth P0.A10 during MIPCOM 2018.
