The telenovela ‘Nos Tempos do Imperador’ (In the Age of the Emperor), from TV Globo; the documentary ‘The Evandro Case: a devilish plot’, a Globoplay Original; and the actress Letícia Colin for ‘Where My Heart Is’, also a Globoplay Original, are in the running for the prize.
At the beginning of this Thursday, the 29th of September, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the nominees to the 2022 International Emmy. Globo has been nominated in three categories: “Telenovela”, with ‘Nos Tempos do Imperador’ (In the Age of the Emperor), from TV Globo; “Documentary”, with ‘The Evandro Case: a devilish plot’, a Globoplay Original; and “Best Actress”, with Letícia Colin for ‘Where My Heart Is’, also a Globoplay Original. This year, in sum, Globo has four nominations to the International Emmy. Besides the three productions announced on this Thursday, ‘Jornal Nacional’ and ‘Fantástico’ were runner-ups in the “News” category of the International Emmy News Awards for the news coverage “Prevent Senior Case”.
The winners will be announced on the 21st of November in New York, United States, during the gala ceremony that marks the 50th edition of the awards and it will be hosted by the director of TV Globo and Affiliates, Amauri Soares. On the previous day, Globoplay will host an ending cocktail party for the “International Emmy Festival”.
'Nos Tempos do Imperador' (In the Age of the Emperor), telenovela of the 8p.m time slot of TV Globo, was broadcasted between August of 2021 and February of 2022. Set in Rio de Janeiro, it’s a historical tale that happens in a Brazil still seeking its identity, and follows important moments of the lives of Emperor Dom Pedro II (Selton Melo), Empress Teresa Cristina (Leticia Sabatella), and Luísa, the Countess of Barral (Mariana Ximenes), besides Pilar (Gabriela Medvedovski) and Jorge/Samuel (Michel Gomes), as the years march forwards. By means of stories of love, fights and hopes, the telenovela presents historical elements that still reflect the current times. ‘Nos Tempos do Imperador’ was created and written by Alessandro Marson and Thereza Falcão, with Julio Fischer, Duba Elia, Wendell Bendelack and Lalo Homrich, and with artistic direction by Vinícius Coimbra, general direction by João Paulo Jabur and direction by Guto Arruda Botelho, Alexandre Macedo, Pablo Müller, Joana Antonaccio and Caio Campos. Genre direction by José Luiz Villamarim.
In the “Documentary” category, ‘The Evandro Case: a devilish plot’, a Globoplay Original, is in the competition. In 1992, the disappearance and death of a six-year-old boy, Evandro Ramos Caetano, in a small coast city of Paraná, Guaratuba, shocked the country. Not only due to the brutal manner in which he was murdered, but thanks to the political and legal developments of the case, which is full of twists and turn, some of them being recent. Though it’s a crime known by the general audiences, ‘Evandro Case’ took new investigative turns thanks to the inquiries of Ivan Mizanzuk, who built, from that story, the most successful season of the ‘Projeto Humanos’ (Human Project) podcast, available at Globoplay and in other platforms of digital audio. The production, carried out by the producer Glaz and recorded at the beginning of 2020 with general direction of Aly Muritiba, who shares the direction with Michelle Chevrand, has a script signed by Angelo Defanti, Arthur Warren, Ludmila Naves and Tainá Muhringer and had the participation of Ivan Mizanzuk in front and behind the cameras.
Letícia Colin is a nominee of the “Best Actress” category for the series ‘Where My Heart Is’. In the story, she plays Amanda, a young, successful and idealistic doctor from a well to do family that loses herself in the quick pleasure of drugs and no longer has control over her professional and emotional life. Besides her, her parents, the executive Sofia (Mariana Lima) and the doctor David (Fábio Assunção), as well as her husband, the architect Miguel (Daniel de Oliveira), and her sister Julia (Manu Morelli), end up dealing with it. When the fragility of the familial structure, so far unquestioned, is revealed, they all must face their personal dramas. A Globoplay Original series developed by the Globo Studios, ‘Where My Heart Is’ was created and written by George Moura and Sergio Goldenberg and has Luísa Lima’s artistic direction, wth José Luiz Villamarim’s artistic overview. The genre direction is from Silvio de Abreu. Letícia celebrates the nomination and points out how important the hopeful message told by the series is: “I am immensely happy! Our work is a victory for love, kindness, and the strength to tell a story about having a second chance! It’s possible to overcome a drug addiction and start your life over”.
