The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced on the morning of Monday, the 14th, the nominees for the 2019 International Emmy Kids Awards. Globo was nominated in three out of seven categories: ‘series’ and ‘digital’ with ‘Malhação: Vidas Brasileiras’ and ‘reality’ with ‘The Voice Kids’. The winners will be announced during a ceremony in Cannes, France, on March 31st, 2020.
About to celebrate its 25th anniversary on air, ‘Young Hearts’ proves to be more current than ever. Winner of the 2018 Emmy Kids Awards with ‘Embrace Diversity’, the current season is ‘Vidas Brasileiras’, nominated in two categories. As ‘best series’, it competes against productions from the Netherlands, Singapore and England. Inspired by the awarded Canadian series ‘30 vies’, ‘Malhação: Vidas Brasileiras’ was written by Patrícia Moretzsohn, with the supervision of Daniel Ortiz and artistic direction of Natália Grimberg. The plot told the story of Gabriela Fortes (Camila Morgado, ‘The Party’), an idealist Brazilian teacher who would go beyond the school grounds to understand the essence of each one of her students. Every 15 days, the plot would take a deep dive in the life of one of her students, revealing their intimacy, doubts and dreams. The story approached issues, like: drugs, sexism, body idealization, racism, harassment, religious intolerance, teenage pregnancy, among other subjects, giving room for debate by the society.
In the ‘digital’ category, ‘Malhação: Vidas Brasileiras’ competes through the exclusive action of Gshow ‘Malhação Ao Vivo’. Every fifteen days, the show was broadcast live on ‘Young Hearts’ social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) with the participation of the cast, digital influencers and experts. The show was hosted by the actors Julia Mendes and Leonardo Bittencourt, who played Hugo and Marli on the show. It lasted from 25 minutes to 1 hour and the hosts would review the last two weeks in the lives of the characters with the participation of the actors involved in the story. They would present a video produced by the telenovela crew and the season’s backstage. ‘Malhação Ao Vivo’ competes with productions from Norway, England and Denmark. André Marques and Thalita Rebouças completed the cast as hosts of the third edition of the show, with contestants between 9 and 15 years old. The show crowned the 15-year-old singer Eduarda Brasil, from Paraíba, member of team Simone & Simaria, as the champion. The show has artistic direction of Creso Eduardo Macedo and general direction of Flavio Goldemberg, competing with productions from Thailand, the United Kingdom and Belgium.
