Globo’s catalog features the second season of ‘Under Pressure’ at MIPCOM 2018

After captivating the audience with its first season – which reached an average of 40.2 million viewers per episode while it aired on free TV in Brazil – and being screened and awarded at international festivals, Globo launches the second season of ‘Under Pressure’ at MIPCOM 2018, simultaneously with its premiere at home.
The series portrays the daily struggles of Evandro (Julio Andrade, ‘Above Justice’) and Carolina (Marjorie Estiano, ‘Dangerous Liaisons’) to overcome obstacles and keep their patients alive at a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro, which has been increasingly suffering the effects of corruption.
The first season of ‘Under Pressure’, with an extremely realistic story, got the attention of the international market. Screened in festivals such as Berlinale (Germany) and TIFF (Canada), the production won four awards at the 31st International Festival of Audiovisual Programmes (Fipa), held in January in Biarritz, France: best series, best actress for Marjorie Estiano, best actor for Julio Andrade, and best script. ‘Under Pressure’ was also licensed to Portugal and the MBC group in the Middle East. The series was such a hit that a third season has already been confirmed.
Just as in the previous season, the new episodes were all shot at a deactivated hospital wing. Real events have inspired the tragedies experienced by the new patients. The production addresses current issues that are important to society, including drug addiction, adoption and obesity, among others.
In the plot, Evandro is increasingly closer to Carolina, who is still recovering from a failed suicide attempt, but manages to achieve some balance. The couple thinks about taking the next step in their relationship, but their plans could be disrupted by the problems at work, especially with the appearance of a new hospital administrator. Her corrupt practices limit the few resources available and result in increased precariousness of healthcare, directly affecting the team of professionals and the patients. Thus, the team faces a choice: turn a blind eye to corruption or save lives?
With artistic direction by Andrucha Waddington and direction by Andrucha and Mini Kerti, ‘Under Pressure’ is coproduced by Globo and Conspiração Filmes. The second season’s script is supervised by Jorge Furtado with final editing by Lucas Paraízo, who wrote the episodes with Antonio Prata, Marcio Alemão and André Sirangelo.
Globo will be located at booth P0.A10 during MIPCOM 2018.
