The production is part of the new breed of series for the international market.
The impressive limited series ‘Harassment’ is featured among the releases that Globo will present in this edition of MIPCOM. ‘Harassment’ is part of the company’s new breed of series and, along with the international launch in Cannes, premieres in Brazil exclusively on Globoplay, Globo Group’s OTT platform. This simultaneous launch reaffirms the company’s investments in innovative multiplatform short formats, with content that will help promote the discussion of topics relevant to modern society in Brazil and abroad.
The plot brings fictional characters inspired by several stories of harassment and revolves around a network of women who come together to fight for a common goal: report serial sexual abuse perpetrated by a successful and respected doctor. “We’ll talk about the strength of the collective. The victims take a stand and decide to change history by showing the power of the collective against harassment. This union between them is the protagonist of the story. The subject is very current and has sparked debate worldwide,” said author Maria Camargo (‘The Brothers’), who wrote ‘Harassment’ with journalist Bianca Ramoneda, Fernando Rebello and Pedro de Barros.
Stela (Adriana Esteves, ‘Brazil Avenue’), Eugênia (Paula Possani), Maria José (Hermila Guedes, ‘Forbidden City’), Vera (Fernanda D’Umbra) and Daiane (Jéssica Ellen, ‘Above Justice’) all suffered the same abuse: were misled by Dr. Roger Sadala (Antonio Calloni, ‘Brave Woman’), a reference in assisted human reproduction. The lives of these five women intertwine amidst dreams, frustrations, grief, resilience, heroism and a burning desire for justice. Alongside them is Mira (Elisa Volpatto, ‘Sweet Mother’), a tireless journalist who obsessively pursues evidence of the crimes committed by the doctor.
Recorded in the city of São Paulo and with only one day in a closed studio, the narrative includes 10 episodes and takes place in two phases: the first depicts the rise of Dr. Roger Sadala – as opposed to the victims’ suffering; the second, after the women unite and break their silence – the tables turn and the doctor is arrested. To convey the passage of time, ‘Harassment’ featured high-quality production and impeccable costume design, characterization and set design. In addition to the star cast, the artistic direction also features some heavy hitters: Amora Mautner, from ‘Precious Pearl’ and ‘Brazil Avenue’, who guides the limited series, with general direction by Joana Jabace and direction by Guto Botelho.
Globo will be located at booth P0.A10 during MIPCOM 2018.
