And the classic ‘The Clone’ will air in Israel in 2019.
Globo has just licensed three hit telenovelas from its international catalog. ‘Edge of Desire,’ written by International Emmy Award winner Gloria Perez, was licensed to pay-TV channel RTV21, from Kosovo. The telenovela, which had excellent ratings on Brazilian prime time, tells the story of three striking women with distinct personalities, whose fates intersect due to something in common: the strength to fight for what they want. Dubai Media Incorporated acquired the broadcast rights to police romantic comedy ‘The Big Catch,’ which will air on the free-to-air TV channel Dubai One across the MENA region, which encompasses Arabic speaking countries. Both were included in Globo’s catalog this year. The classic ‘The Clone,’ a big hit by Gloria Perez that has been licensed to more than 100 countries, has been selected by Dori Media Group, a Globo partner in Israel.
With artistic direction by Rogério Gomes, ‘Edge of Desire’ swept Brazilian audiences off their feet with a sensitive approach towards human dramas and modern-day issues. While it was aired on free-to-air TV in Brazil, the plot recorded an average daily reach of 48 million viewers. More than 65 million Brazilians tuned in to watch the last episode: 7 out of 10 households watching TV were tuned into the plot – breaking the plot’s ratings record yet again. In addition to Kosovo, countries such as Bulgaria, Uruguay, Ecuador, Bolivia and Chile have already bet on ‘Edge of Desire.’ The telenovela also aired on SIC in Portugal, leading the ratings in its time slot.
Gloria Perez’s sensitive writing and her choice of current issues make her one of the most licensed authors in Globo’s history. Her plots continue to thrill audiences all over the world and some have become classics, broadcast even today, almost 20 years after premiering. This is the case of ‘The Clone,’ licensed to more than 100 countries and scheduled to premiere in Israel in April 2019. The plot mixed tradition and modernism to tell a love story, addressing issues such as Arab culture, human cloning and drug dependence, and had its rights acquired by Dori Media Group and will air on Viva Channel. ‘The Clone’ features core direction by Jayme Monjardim.
‘The Big Catch’ won over the Dubai One channel, which has aired other Globo hits, such as ‘Brazil Avenue’ and ‘Irrational Heart.’ The telenovela’s starting point, which will air in Arabic, is a clumsy millionaire burglary in a luxury hotel in Rio de Janeiro and its developments. With lots of action scenes, the plot discusses ethical and moral values through a light and high-spirited approach. In Brazil, ‘The Big Catch’ recorded an average daily reach of 38 million viewers on Globo’s Access Prime Time. The telenovela was also a hit in Portugal and had its broadcast rights acquired by BTV, Bulgaria’s largest media group. ‘The Big Catch’ was written by Claudia Souto and features artistic direction by Luiz Henrique Rios.
