Globo welcomed major international market players to the event “Beyond Content”, held in Miami this Tuesday, January 22nd, during the first day of NATPE. To share the company’s vision about its strategic moves focusing on the consumer and to present its 2019 catalog – the largest ever released in the market – the company took on the concept “On the Move,” to reinforce its enthusiasm about the future of the industry and business opportunities. Globo’s investment in creative capital, innovation and talent were highlighted by the company’s executives. The diversity of genres and formats offered in the portfolio were also emphasized.
The event was presented by Fernanda Lima, who hosts the show ‘Love and Sex’ - an original Globo format. And to share the concept Globo on the move, were in attendance the CEO Carlos Henrique Schroder, along with Monica Albuquerque, Head of Development, Silvio de Abreu, Head of Drama and Comedy, and Raphael Corrêa Netto, Head of International Business.
With emotion as a universal element and a key through which stories travel around the world, Carlos Henrique Schroeder talked about Globo’s connection with more than 100 million people on a daily basis in Brazil and beyond borders to engage the audience. “At Globo, our doors are completely open to the future. We are fully dedicated to our relationships with broadcasters, producers, programmers, creatives, platforms, agencies. All of you in this amazing industry,” said Schroder.
“We have rearranged our development pipeline to produce more content, so that we may provide original projects for all the group platforms, such as our pay TV channels and Globoplay, our SVOD platform. And, since Brazilian culture has a special contribution for the world, we are sure that our stories are powerful enough to engage the global market.” said Monica Albuquerque, who also explained how audience insights are creatively applied at Globo Studios through intelligence surveys.
The diversity of formats that Globo offers – telenovelas, series, limited series, super series, movies, original formats – and the variety of genres, innovation and creativity are some of the differentials offered by the biggest creator of stories in Latin America. Currently, Globo has more than 250 writers developing series to supply different platforms from Globo Group, in addition to projects with partners.
For Silvio de Abreu, Head of Drama and Comedy and creator of major hits that have traveled the world, there is no formula for building a great success, but the consumer influences the projects from the beginning. “The best we can do is to believe in our work, to be authentic, sincere and honest, to do our shows with emotion and in the best way we can, and believe that the audience will love them,” said Silvio de Abreu.
“Over the years, I've introduced some of the best Globo content that we have had to offer for your screens. But this year, I would also like to share Globo's business vision,” said Raphael Corrêa Netto, Head of International Business.
Globo has been creating partnerships and exchanging experiences, taking content to different territories and new slots. Good examples of these partnerships are the newly announced co-production ‘Jugar con Fuego’, with Telemundo International Studios, and the agreement with the Spanish group Atresmedia, which includes 500 hours of original Globo content per year in the United States and Latin America, on the paid TV channel Atreseries.
During the event, attendees also learned about some of the productions that make up Globo’s new international catalog, such as ‘Harassment’ and ‘Iron Island’ - original productions from Globo exclusively for Globoplay, including the telenovelas ‘A Second Chance’ and ‘The Other Side of Paradise’, and the super series ‘Land of The Strong’, to name a few. A reel with unscripted format hits in Brazil that Globo, from now on, will take to the world were also presented, including ‘Love and Sex,’ ‘Pop Star,’ ‘Family Size,’ ‘Keep the Change’ and ‘A Blast from the Past’.
