With a booming culture, full of historical pop culture events, the 90s have earned their own telenovela. ‘The Incredible 90's’ is a romantic, up-beat, musical comedy, created by Izabel de Oliveira and Filipe Miguez, responsible for the hit ‘Sparkling Girls’.
The story is about three young former stars and their struggling mothers: Lidiane (Claudia Raia) and Janaína (Dira Paes), who in their own way - which may be questionable - want their children`s happiness. Manuzita (Isabelle Drummond) was the most loved girl in Brazil: with her brothers João (Rafael Vitti) and Jerônimo (Jesuíta Barbosa), they formed the ‘Patotinha Mágica’ trio, which became a great hit across the country. However, the years went by, and fame and recognition were left behind. When the 90s arrive, the friendship between Manuzita and João triggers the wrath and envy of Jerônimo and, besides this jealousy, he has never abandoned the ambition of being famous again.
“The Incredible 90’s is a telenovela that focuses on the summer. It is based in the decade that feels like yesterday, but it is really quite distant. There were no cell phones or internet, and people needed to make arrangements to meet up. It was a time when we had a technological boom. It’s a telenovela about this change”, explains author Izabel de Oliveira. “We noticed during production that a lot happened in the 90s and there were a lot of stories to be told,” she adds.
To highlight the nostalgic atmosphere, Jorge Fernando`s artistic direction was accurate on several points: “We have a lot of humor, romance, emotions, and music. It is a very well-set telenovela. It is a tribute to the decade,” commented Jorge. “It is a period that has a direct impact on people's consciousness and unconsciousness. You see a telephone token and become emotional; in fact, some people don`t even know what a public phone is nowadays. The younger cast were surprised by the number of things that they had not experienced, and resulted in the world we live in today,” he concludes.
